Traffic flow plates, alligator teeth or tyre killers for traffic control?

Did you know that all tyre killers are illegal to use in the UK? Did you know that they will fail all health and safety and risk assessments? Think about it - a child falling on one - it just isn't worth the risk?
In a similar way, did you know that many (not all) of the alligator teeth that are offered as traffic control solutions are also unsuitable to use in the UK due to their health and safety implications. If you are looking or installing alligator teeth as a traffic control measure, try to select something with a wider and easy drop flap to help prevent injuries of someone falling on it.
Traffic flow plates are far better suited to the UK as they tend to have wider and easy fall flaps. These help to minimise injuries should someone fall on them.
So what are traffic flow plates they used for?
Traffic flow plates have numerous purposes and uses:
1. to slow traffic on the approach to a vehicle entrance
2. to create a cost competitive one way system
3. to help prevent unauthorised access to a facility without the need for a powered system (eg car park barrier)
Traffic flow plates are easy to install and can either be recessed or surface fixed and as they are usually installed as individual units, should 1 become damaged, it is easy and cost effective to replace.
If you are thinking about using traffic flow plates, consider the types of vehicles that will be passing over them to ensure you install a robust unit (eg standard units will quickly break is they are used by HGV's). You should also add some signage to ensure vehicles move across them slowly and with as straight an approach as possible.
