The importance of a "method of operation" for vehicle access solutions

It might surprise you to know that end users and installers both have the same concern when it comes to vehicle access control solutions such as automatic car park barriers, automatic rising bollards or automatic sliding / speed gates.
In my experience:
-Clients often complain that "they cannot compare the quotes they have as they are all different"
-Suppliers / installers complain that "their quote gives you what you asked for but all the others do not"
It is highly frustrating when you have spent considerable time sourcing potential suppliers, talking them through what you want and chasing their quotes only to find when you get them that you cannot compare them or that they have misunderstood what you want.
There are also 100's of different ways in which you can control your vehicle access solution and suppliers (understandably) will try to sell you what they are best at and not necessarily what is best for you.
You can alleviate a lot of the pain by agreeing a detailed "method of operation" before you seek quotes. Essentially this details how you get in and how you get out of your vehicle access solution. Make sure it details the method for staff, visitors, emergency vehicles and any other site specific requirements you have (eg weekend use, overrides, remote control etc). Make sure it details the safety devices you want included to cater for (eg pedestrians, long vehicles, trailers etc). If you spend time to get this document right, then you are much more likely to get multiple like for like quotations.
